Some of the many groups
working for the
GREATER GOOD of
humanity

An estimated 24,000 people (mostly children under 5) die each and every day of hunger while tons of food lays rotting in warehouses. Approximately  800 million people in the world, suffer from hunger and malnutrition, that's about 100 times as many as those who actually die from hunger each year.  There is a 10% per person, per capita excess of food. (Hungersite/hungerfacts
There's usually plenty of food to be had for those who have jobs and money to buy it. Most of these people live in parts of the world where there are very few jobs. Far too many of us in the developed world take our situation for granted and ignore those who we could easily help. Please don't take your situation for granted. Please help the goodwill organization(s) of your choice as much as you can.

Quotations

Children have the right, recognized in international law, to good nutrition. The world has the obligation to protect that right, building on both the great experience gained and the scientific knowledge achieved. Action is both possible and imperative. (Carol Bellamy, Exec. Director UNICEF)

The Tibetan:
The key to humanity’s trouble... has been to take and not give, to accept and not share, to grasp and not to distribute... Humanity has never really lived up to the teaching given it. Spiritual impression, whether conveyed by the Christ, by Krishna or by Buddha...has not yet been expressed as it was hoped. Men do not live up to what they already know; they fail to make practical their information; they short circuit the light; they do not discipline themselves; greedy desire and unlawful ambition control and not the inner knowledge...This is the major problem facing spiritual people at this time.
(The Tibetan)

"Something is about to happen you can rouse it, associate yourself at the same time with millions of others, reunited in a kind of a new communion of saints, that through their power and intrinsic creativity, makes available a lever capable of turning over the world to the proper side."
Brahma Kumaris

The day will come when nations will be judged not by their military or economic strength, nor by the splendour of their capital cities and public buildings, but by the well-being of their peoples: by their levels of health, nutrition and education; by their opportunities to earn a fair reward for their labours; by their ability to participate in the decisions that affect their lives; by the respect that is shown for their civil and political liberties; by the provision that is made for those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged; and by the protection that is afforded to the growing minds and bodies of their children. The Progress of Nations, published annually by the United Nations Children's Fund, is a contribution towards that day. (FAO Photo: refugee camp, Mauritania, Africa)

"There is nothing in your world, either alive or dead, that is worth being agitated about, except the alleviation of suffering." (From: "The Boy & the Brothers"; publisher Neville Spearman, London,UK)

"When we harm another we only harm ourselves.... When a soldier dies in Bosnia, part of us is slain. We are both the assailant and the assailed." (Dr. Stylianos Atteshilis, also known as Daskalos)

"A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe', a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." (Albert Einstein)

"The universe is... an "ocean of energy", that is considered, not in a mechanistic manner, but as a whole, a totality, a network of joinings. The universe (God-Man-Cosmos) is a unified organism, alive with a body and a soul (the energy coincided with the spirit). As one digs further in the direction of the roots of reality, the more one finds that all is unified and is simplified. God and the world, spirit and matter, soul and body, intelligence and sense, heaven and earth are an immense energetic vibration in which everything is connected." (from a May 7, 1998 article in the official Vatican City State newspaper, "Osservatore Romano", by Teresa Osorio Goncalves, translated from Italian)

"I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me... Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me." (Matt. 25:36,40)

"Throughout the world there are men, women & little children who have not even the essentials to stay alive; they crowd the cities of many of the poorest countries in the world. This crime fills Me with shame. My brothers, how can you watch these people die before your eyes & call yourself men? ...the way out of your problems is to listen again to the true voice of God within your hearts, to share the produce of this most bountiful of worlds among your brothers and sisters everywhere." (The World Teacher)

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Mt 6:19; Lk 12:33; Th 76)

"Feed your brothers. Remember that mankind is One, children of the One Father. Make over in trust, the goods of the Earth to all who are in need. Do this now and save the world." (The World Teacher)
