Each festival covers a special period of
five days (two days preceding, the day of the Festival, and the two following days), with
the climax on the day of the Festival itself, when women and men of goodwill can cooperate
much more effectively than at other times, in meditation and through the direction of
energy, with the spiritual Hierarchy and those who stand behind the evolution of
consciousness of our planet.
1. THE FESTIVAL OF EASTER
Aries full moon; Keynote: Love
"I come forth and from the plane of mind, I rule."
This is the Festival of the risen, living Christ, the
Teacher of all men and the Head of the Spiritual Hierarchy. He is the expression of the
love of God. On this day the Hierarchy, which He guides and directs, will be recognized
and the nature of God's love will be emphasized.
This Festival is determined always by the date of the first Full Moon of spring and is the
great Western and Christian Festival.
Esoteric ruler: Mercury - 4th Ray (see keynotes 3 and 4
below). Exoteric ruler: Mars - 6th Ray Ray 1 and Ray 7 are transmitted through Aries.
Aries is the expression of will as it expresses
itself through the great creative process.Aries initiates the cycle of manifestation. It
is the place where the initial idea to institute activity takes place. It is the
birthplace of ideas. Aries is the sign of beginnings:
Creation - Being - Activity - Strife - Synthesis
The keynotes of this sign:
1. Express the will to be and do.
2. Unfold the power to manifest.
3. Enter into battle for the Lord.
4. Arrive at unity through effort.
Aries transmits the energy of the first Ray of Will or Power, a power
that can be destructive or creative and purifying depending upon the
vehicle which it contacts. It is a fire sign and the purveyor to our
solar system of pure, electric fire which fosters and nourishes heat as
well as burning and destroying all limitations both individual and
within the world at large. In Aries it is said that the “jungles of
experience are set on fire and dissolve in flames and…the Path stands
clear and unobstructed vision is achieved.” Fire is the great liberator,
clearing away obstacles and bringing forth the truth. And through the
agency of fire, Aries is said to “fuse the beginning and the end, to
blend the opposites and dispel both time and space”.
Aries coincides with the Easter Festival, the great Christian festival
of rebirth. The Crucifixion experience was meant to demonstrate the
reality of “life more abundant”, not the focus upon death that has
characterised the church’s interpretation of the event. The keynote of
the new age understanding of this festival will be upon resurrection,
symbolising the precipitation on Earth of a new kingdom in which all
will be free from death and released from the cross of matter. Christ
came to show us the nature of the “saved life”, to demonstrate the
quality of the eternal self which is in everyone.
2. THE WESAK FESTIVAL
The full moon (Taurus) of the Buddha
Keynotes: wisdom & divine purpose
"I see and when the eye is opened, all is light."
This is the Festival of the Buddha, the spiritual Intermediary between the
highest spiritual center, Shamballa, and the Hierarchy. The Buddha is the expression of
the wisdom of God, the Embodiment of Light and the Indicator of the divine purpose. This
will be fixed annually in relation to the Full Moon of May, as is at present the case. It
is the great Eastern Festival.. the greatest event upon our planet, from the stand
point of the Spiritual verities, and the one which has the greatest effect upon the human
race.
3. WORLD INVOCATION DAY (also
called the Festival of Humanity and the Christ Festival)
The full moon (Gemini) of the Christ.
Keynote: humanity, aspiring to God
"I recognize my other self and in the waning of that self, I grow and glow."
This will be the Festival of the spirit of
humanity aspiring towards God, seeking conformity with the will of God and dedicated to
the expression of right human relations. This will be fixed annually in relation to the
Gemini Full Moon. It will be a day whereon the spiritual and divine nature of mankind will
be recognized.
World Invocation Day is a world day of prayer and
meditation when men and women of every spiritual path join in a universal appeal to
divinity and use the Great Invocation (see below). Together they focus the invocative
demand of humanity for the light, the love and the spiritual direction needed to build a
world of justice, unity and peace.
On this Festival for two thousand years the Christ has represented
humanity and has stood before the Hierarchy and in the sight of Shamballa as the God-Man,
the Leader of His people, and "the Eldest in a great family of brothers" (Romans
VIII:29). Each year at that time He has preached
the last sermon of the Buddha, before the
assembled Hierarchy. This will, therefore be a festival of deep invocation and appeal, of
a basic aspiration towards fellowship, of human and spiritual unity, and will represent
the effect in the human consciousness of the work of the Buddha and of the Christ.
Relationship of
the Two Festivals (Wesak & World Invocation Day) (From the Wesak Message 1944)
At the time of the Wesak Festival , the Buddha will sound out a great
mantram and become the "absorbing Agent" of the first ray force. He will use the
magnetic power of the second ray to attract this force to Himself and hold it steady,
prior to redirecting it. The Christ will then ---on behalf of the Hierarchy--- become the
"receiving Agent" of this potent energy and the seven groups of Masters Who work
with the human and sub-human kingdoms will (in response to His demand) become the
"directing Agents" for the seven fold expression of this force.
At the time of the Festival of Humanity (World Invocation Day), the
Hierarchy will, under the guidance of the Christ, let loose this will-to-good upon
Humanity, producing seven great results, according to the seven sub-rays of this first ray
of will or power:
1. Power will be given to the disciples of the world and the initiates
among men, so that They can direct efficiently and wisely the coming process of
rebuilding.
2. The will-to-love will stimulate the men of goodwill everywhere
that hatred will gradually be overcome and men will seek to live
together cooperatively...
3. The will-to-action will lead intelligent people throughout the world to inaugurate
those activities which will lay the foundation for a new, better and happier world.
4. The will-to-cooperate will steadily increase also. Men will desire and demand right
human relations - a result more general than that produced by the activity of the first
three aspects of this ray, but which will be a natural outcome of this aspect.
5. The will-to-know and to think correctly and creatively will become an outstanding
characteristic of the masses. Knowledge, my brothers, is the first step towards wisdom.
6. The will-to-persist (which is an aspect of devotion and fixed idealism) will become a
human characteristic - a sublimation of the basic instinct of self-preservation. This will
lead to a persistent belief in the ideals presented by the Hierarchy, and the
demonstration of immortality.
7. The will-to-organize will further a building process which will be carried forward
under the direct inspiration of the Hierarchy. The medium will be the potency of the
will-to-good of the New Group of World Servers and the responsive goodwill of mankind.
At the time of the full moon festivals, the moon stands on the far
side of the earth, away from the sun. This leaves a full, direct and unimpeded
relationship between the earth and the sun, the source of our life, energy and
consciousness, symbolic of the relationship between the human personality and the soul.
Speaking symbolically, and remembering that symbols always veil a truth,
it might be stated that, at the time of the full moon it is as if a door were suddenly
opened wide, which at other times stands closed. Through that door, aspirants and
disciples can contact energies which are otherwise not easily available. Through that
door, approach can be made to Those Who guide the race and to truth and reality, which at
other times is not possible. Of this, all who stand on either side of the door can avail
themselves, and this will be so increasingly.

"When Maitreya comes before
the worldthere
will begin for men a period of intense heart-searching and
reflection. It is only to be expected that for many it will be a
painful, even traumatic, one. So steeped in the ways and ideas
of the past, so fearful of a future unknown and strange, are
millions today, that men will want to take stock of the new
situation which will then pertain…. When Maitreya first
announces His plans and hopes for the rehabilitation of the
world, His energy of Love – the Sword of Cleavage – will further
delineate the divisions which now exist. Men will take sides –
for or against the new principles that He will present for the
betterment of all. Thus will it be. Thus will a period of
discord and discontent precede the acceptance of the new.
Gradually, however, even the least sanguine will acknowledge the
need for a reconstructed world and add their weight to the task.

The Sword of Cleavage is the energy of Love. As people respond
to this energy the world will be divided – those who are
clamouring for change along the lines Maitreya is advocating,
and those who are fearful and looking to the past, who see Him
as the Antichrist, are fearful and do not know what to do. They
will stand aside and watch the events, and so lose the
opportunity presented, for the first time in history, to take
part in the transformation of the world. It is up to each
individual, from where he or she stands, to assert their

One of the easiest ways to know me, Maitreya says, is to
be
honest in your mind, be sincere in your spirit, and practice detachment. Any
action performed with dishonesty of mind, an insincere spirit and attachment
is destructive. For example, when you think one thing, say another, and do
something which is different again, you are lost. Honesty of mind leads to
honest speech and honest action. This harmony leads to peace and happiness.
Without detachment there is no salvation.
Be what you are. Do not surrender your self-respect, your
dignity, to others. Do not allow anyone to cast his shadow over you. A
Master gives experiences, but does not cast his shadow.
Do not follow one another. If you practice honesty of mind,
sincerity of spirit and detachment, you will know me, you will know the
Lord.
