Miraculous AIDS healing Father Luigi Scrosoppi, being cannonized by the Pope, is credited with curing a Zambian priest-trainee of AIDS. (190 words) In June 2001 the Pope will canonize the Italian priest Father Luigi Scrosoppi (1804-1894). The founder of an order of nuns near Udine, north-east Italy, he became well known for his supernatural powers and ability to heal. Even today he continues to perform miracles. In 1996, 24-year-old Brother Peter Chungu Shitima, a trainee priest from Zambia, lay dying of AIDS when he had a vision in which Father Luigi appeared to him. (At that time the Italian priest had already been beatified.) The next morning Peter Shitima woke knowing beyond doubt that he had been cured of AIDS by Father Luigi Scrosoppi. His claims were investigated by an independent team of medical experts and on the basis of their findings the Vatican declared the case a genuine miracle. Medical tests showed that Brother Shitima had indeed been cured of AIDS. Father Luigi’s canonization will be a memorable occasion for the young Zambian seminarian who will be attending the ceremony in Rome. Hindus expect Krishna (or the Kalki Avatar), Christians hope for the return of Christ, Jews await the Messiah, Moslems look for the Imam Mahdi or Messiah, and Buddhists anticipate the Fifth (Maitreya) Buddha. According to esoteric teachings all of these are different names for the same individual: the World Teacher, whose personal name is Maitreya (My-TRAY-uh). He is the leader of the Spiritual Hierarchy of Masters (also known as the Great White Brotherhood, the Church Invisible, the Spiritual Hierarchy). It is a group of very advanced beings who guide humanity's evolution from behind the scenes. Maitreya has led the Hierarchy for the past 2,600 years. His energies work through men and women of goodwill everywhere, regardless of religious, philosophical, or political affiliations. Preferring to be known simply as 'the Teacher', He has not come as a religious leader or to found a new religion, but as teacher and guide for people of every religion and those of no religion.
