The UFO/Crop Circle Controversies
by Bette Stockbauer

When H. G. Wells broadcast the War of the Worlds in 1939 his radio script about a Martian invasion of planet Earth panicked America. The country was relieved to find it was untrue, but no one knew how prophetic it would be, because within a decade UFO sightings began in earnest. There was no hostile invasion of course, but since the mid-40's reports of Unidentified Flying Objects have come from practically every country in the world.

In 1944, during the crucial months of WW II, Allied pilots brought back mysterious reports from Europe. When conducting bombing runs over Germany, they saw disk-like objects and mysterious balls of light that would "dance" on the wings of their planes. In Sweden, hundreds of civilians saw similar sights. In post-war America and during the following decades of cold war with Russia, UFOs were often sighted around military installations. Although US officials consistently denied their reality, many private statements from both politicians and military commanders have attested to their personal belief in the phenomena.

Then in the late 70s another enigma began - curious circular indentations in English fields of grain which came to be called crop circles. Patterns in the grain would suddenly appear, usually overnight and often quite large. The grain stalks forming the pattern were neatly lain down, remaining unharmed and even continuing to grow. Over the next 20 years these formations increased in number, beauty, and complexity, defying every claim of human origin. They are now found on every continent.

Creme's Commentary

Since the late 70s the British artist and writer, Benjamin Creme, has distributed information about crop circles and UFOs which has challenged many of the popular theories. Though controversial he is one of few commentators who not only speaks with complete inner conviction but also offers ideas which interrelate the phenomena with one another and with historical events of the past 50 years. This is the story he tells.

He says that the UFOs come mainly from Venus and Mars, but also from a number of other planets in our solar system. The designers of the ships, whom he calls the Space Brothers, are highly evolved spiritual entities who oversee and guide the lower evolutionary life of each planet. Each planet has this Spiritual Hierarchy and the hierarchies of all the planets in our solar system are in close cooperation. The Venusians are here at this time in history to help with the transition that planet Earth faces as it leaves the Piscean era and enters that of Aquarius.

Such a transition is always precarious and our world has had tremendous difficulty in making the change. During the 2 world wars and the cold war following, its future quite literally hung in the balance. The great numbers of UFOs during these decades attest to their concern about the outcome of the war and the atomic arms build-up afterwards. The many sightings also served to remind us that we are not alone, that actions on Earth can affect the entire solar system.

Creme says that there are no hostile UFOs and that thousands and even millions of them have visited this planet for countless millennia. Since they are made of etheric substance, with a higher vibration than earth substance, they are normally invisible to the human eye. If the pilot of the spacecraft wishes it to be seen the atomic vibration can be lowered to make it visible. They release into our world tremendous cosmic energies. They have saved us from untold suffering, for they are capable of eliminating the effects of radioactive spills and mishaps which would ordinarily result in many deaths and the birth of deformed infants.

Creating an Energetic Grid

Creme claims that the crop circles are all made by UFOs and their purpose is to aid in the distribution and absorption of the incoming Aquarian energies. "Each circle is magnetized and occupies a specific place in the lines of magnetic force in our Earth's magnetic field. Each circle is a vortex (or chakra), drawing energy in and radiating energy to its surrounding area. Together (they are not haphazardly placed) they form a 'grid' or interrelated energy system of much benefit to us....They are created and left deliberately as a sign of their presence, the extraordinary structure and precision of the circles being a testimony to their higher science."

Coming of the Christ

In this era the Venusians and Martians are working with the Spiritual Hierarchy of our planet to help it achieve certain goals. The coming centuries will see great evolutionary changes in the world, because, for the first time in recorded history, many of the Hierarchy will establish lives in the physical world and work alongside the human evolution. In the past the head of the hierarchical group has often taken physical incarnation, like the Buddha, Krishna, or the Christ, but it is an unprecedented move for so many to take incarnation at one time. Hopeful news stories - of detente between the powers, the reuniting of Germany, the abolishment of apartheid - can be attributed to the energies they are already pouring into the world. Claims of miracles, visions, and healings are also testimony to their work.

The head of the Hierarchy in this era is one named Maitreya, a highly advanced entity who overshadowed the disciple Jesus in Palestinian days. In our time He comes again, thus fulfilling Biblical prophecy. His intent, over time, is to outline a plan for humanity's renewal, based on the concept of sharing. His Masters will, with humanity's permission and assistance, help to implement a world-wide economic system which will relieve the economic disparities of the world and feed and clothe its starving millions.

This is the story that Creme repeats. It is one filled with almost too much promise for a world so long accustomed to war and oppression. Why should anyone believe it, especially now, not too many decades beyond the atomic destruction of WW II, in a world which daily sees starvation and slaughter? Such questions are unanswerable, but there is in our era a resurrection of hope, a rising belief in the perfectibility of humankind, despite its present inadequacy or sordid past. Perhaps this is what gives power to the story. Perhaps we are ready for a new way of life. Perhaps this very readiness will pave the way for such wonders to happen.
