Sharing, in Maitreya's own words
This column seeks to convey the ideas of Maitreya, a Spiritual Teacher who lives in London. The unique vision of Maitreya lies in His teaching that each area of human endeavor — its rich cultural heritage, its political and economic institutions, its vast diversity of religious expression — is inherently spiritual. An ideal future would see the light of divinity shining equally through all. In our time, Maitreya is focusing on the political and economic fields, where He inspires world leaders to implement policies that will lead to an equitable distribution of planetary resources. Benjamin Creme is a London-based artist who has studied esotericism since his youth. In l974 he began to inform interested audiences about the activities and mission of Maitreya. The information comes, he says, from a disciple of Maitreya, whom he calls a Master of Wisdom. Esotericists believe that such Masters are highly evolved spiritual beings who guide our evolutionary path. Creme has been trained by this Master since the late 50’s. Their close connection has resulted in a worldwide dissemination of information about Maitreya. From September l977 until May l982, Creme relayed a body of Maitreya’s teachings. Through a process of mental overshadowing, or telepathy, 140 messages were given, outlining a plan of action for our future. These are available in the book Messages from Maitreya, the Christ. They are an embodiment of simplicity, poetry, and total compassion. These messages touch on many ideas — self-realization, love, world unity, aspiration, and service. The present article will gather some of His thoughts on sharing. For Maitreya, sharing is synonymous with brotherhood and love, for without sharing there can be neither true brotherhood nor the purity of love in our daily lives. He says:
The only way we may enter into a future of peace will be through learning the lessons of loving coexistence. The choices are obvious; we need but the will to implement what so many among us already know to be true.
If we do, indeed, decide to establish a new paradigm for our existence, and cast off the shackles of our outworn institutions, we shall enter into what Maitreya calls a New Country.
In this new land we will finally embody our most fervent aspirations and discover again the true path to God.
These are the first teachings that Maitreya has given to humanity since His reappearance. Always He acknowledges the errors in our world, yet continues to point toward unity and fellowship as our future course. In every message He reminds us of our divinity — the brilliance that He sees in the souls of people everywhere. We are, He says, ready to manifest that brilliance in every aspect of earthly existence. His constant plan and only desire is to help us find its expression.
